HEANET

OVERVIEW

Encompassing approximately 210,000 students & staff (third-level) and approximately 900,000 students & staff (first and second-level), HEAnet connects these Irish learners and researchers to the Internet, online educational resources, and to fellow national educational and research networks in Europe, the USA and the rest of the world.  That’s over one million students, researchers and staff relying on HEAnet's national education network every day.

HEAnet has a special position due to its national standing and its advocacy of leading-edge technology and applications. In this sense, HEAnet has a duty both to adopt best environmental practice, and to promote appropriate networking technology as an alternative to practices which act as large GHG sources.

HEAnet procurement processes have for many years incorporated sustainability considerations in its technical specifications, selection criteria and award criteria.

From January 2021, all HEAnet include a minimum of 5% green award criteria in every tender.

        SPP POLICY AND STRATEGY

HEAnet procurement processes have for many years incorporated sustainability considerations in its technical specifications, selection criteria and award criteria.

HEAnet introduced a set of green public procurement criteria for all of their tenders. From January 2021, all HEAnet include a minimum of 5% green award criteria in every tender.

There is a strong ethos of green awareness among HEAnet’s staff, reflected by the Green Team function established a number of years ago, which encourages and supports green initiatives.
