The city of Cremona is situated in the Po Valley (Pianura Padana) in Lombardy. Approximately 70,000 inhabitants live in Cremona, the capital of Cremona province. Cremona signed the Aalborg Charter in 1999 and the Aalborg + agreement in 2004, and includes GPP criteria in its public procurement.

Cremona Municipality Board signed the Aalborg Charter in 1999, followed by the Ferrara Charter and the Aalborg + agreement in 2004. In the past, Cremona's commitment to sustainability has resulted in the enlargement of the district heating system, the improvement of waste disposal as well as the organisation of environmental education activities and awareness raising campaigns on environmental protection. By signing up to the Procura+ campaign, it committed itself to supporting the use of environmental criteria in public procurement.
Introduced organic foods (vegetables, fruit and pasta) and fair trade drink/snack dispensers in schools.
Purchase of recycled paper for photocopiers.
Tenders include the constant use of environmentally friendly products and equipment with low energy consumption.
Criteria includes environmental requirements such as use of transport with low environmental impact, as well as use of packaging made from recycled material, and reduction in the quantity of packaging.
